NRIMS User's Guide

New collaborative projects will be considered when they examine a biological question that cannot be answered with any other method. In addition, projects will be considered if they seek to; 1) answer important questions where using other methods would be excessively complex or 2) validate a new method of potential general interest.

After informal, preliminary discussions with National Resource for Imaging Mass Spectrometry staff, researchers interested in collaboration should complete the NRIMS Usage Application Form. NRIMS is guided by an Advisory Committee and projects are subject to approval.

As we are required by the NIH to submit a detailed Annual Progress Report summarizing usage of our facility, we in turn mandate all users to submit a summary of their research progress annually.

Annual Research Progress Report

Approximately every twelve months we will request the following information from you and your co-investigators:

1. The title and a half page description (~300 words) of each of your research project(s) that depend on the National Resource for Imaging Mass Spectrometry.

2. A list of the titles and grant numbers of your relevant supporting grants (granting agency, grant number and title, duration of the grant, principal investigator, amount of grant funds).

3. A list of publications from the previous twelve months that depended upon NRIMS' resources.

4. Two reprints of each publication that has not previously been supplied to us.

5. A list of publications and the titles and locations of scientific conferences and seminars in which you used images or data generated at NRIMS during the previous twelve months.

We realize that reporting on your research progress annually is yet another burden to you, but the National Resource for Imaging Mass Spectrometry exists because of the generous funding we receive annually from the NIH, and their Annual Progress Report requirements for P41 grantees are very demanding. We give details of the information that we will be asking from you now in hopes that you keep this requirement in mind as the year progresses and thereby minimize the burden in providing your individual progress report when we ask for it.
